When Balloons Escape, Cica Ghost in Second Life

Balloons by Cica Ghost (moderate)

Cica Ghost has already replaced Ruins with a new installation. Balloons officially opens tomorrow, but you can sneak in now.

As usual with this talented artist, you will find something magical. We only have a few weeks to enjoy it – so make sure you go soon!

This is a city suffering from neglect (also the cats are being ignored, don’t worry I did feed them because somebody has to).

The local residents are totally focused on their balloons – most of which seem to have escaped. They can’t think about anything else.

I don’t actually know what Cica had in mind when she designed this build. I can only tell you that it made me think of addiction.

We occasionally hear stories of people who have allowed their children to suffer because of an obsession with games. Think of the reports of those who lose everything to drugs. The rest of their world becomes unimportant.

Inflated plastic bubbles might seem like an odd thing to create such a personal fixation, and collateral damage, but we’re not the ones with that desperate passion.

You can join them though – just to share the experience. Get your own balloon at the landing spot and see what they find so compelling. :)

The Genius of Romy Nayar’s Sparkys in Second Life

Sparkys by Romy Nayar (moderate)

Almost 4 years ago Romy Nayar introduced me to the Papermakis and I fell in love. It was my first exposure to an immersive, mini-world inside Second Life with an entire population created by an exceptional artist.

Since then I’ve met Tim, visited the Circus, made choices, and braved the dark side of life, all because of the talent of one of SL’s very best creators.

The Sparkys have joined the residents of a city built on stilts. These people are not backwards by any means; they have a train, personal copter type devices, and they enjoy a life filled with friends and entertainment.

You’ll notice, though, that there’s something missing. Colour.

This situation is changing – the discovery of new hues & tints has recently been made. The problem, of course, is that there’s a lot of virtual canvas to paint. This is where we can help.

As you explore (and what a joy that is) you’ll come across a woman giving away paint HUDs. Maya Paris had to help me once more; wear it, push the buttons, and then go into mouse look. It helps if you reduce your draw distance. :)

We can’t actually change the textures of the build – but we can add a lot of colour. In fact, my images would, I think, be better if I hadn’t been distracted by Maya and Ziki Questi. It seems that they decided my avatar was too drab and that they’d paint me!

I will go back – I wanted to just stay there and play for hours. I don’t care what your mood is when you arrive; the build, the characters, and the painting will make you smile.

Don’t dither, go and meet The Sparkys. As Maya said: “This is genius!”.

À Bientôt to Second Life

Jadeyu Fhang’s work on Song Bird (moderate)

If I ruled the world there would be a lot of changes made. I don’t, of course, at least not yet.

One of the things I would insist on is control over what happens in my physical life. Until I achieve that I’ll just have to adapt to circumstances as they arrive.

My daily routine has become completely borked. The result is that I can’t keep the inworld commitments I’ve made – at least not without a lot of inconvenience to others. The fun stuff (like this blog) isn’t getting done either.

I’m going to take the next two months to try and establish some kind of stability and a marginal amount of control.

I’ll be back in November! I’ve put that on my calendar so what could possible go wrong? :)
