Natural Mignon Provides an Escape in Second Life

I needed an “easy” post this morning. Someplace pretty which didn’t require a lot of explanation or background research (i.e., I didn’t do any – there’s a store but, given my reluctance to shop, you’ll have to investigate the contents on your own). The truth is that my sleep was inadequate last night.

I’ve mentioned that two young cats came to live with me a while ago. They’re boys. I’ve had females in the past, but boys really are different. One of them, Fergus, has a strange addiction to plastic. The things he can/will/ do with all forms of synthetic polymers betray a vivid, if eccentric, imagination.

He is also quite stubbornly determined to seek out any and all opportunities to further his experiments and push the boundaries of his fetish. I won’t go into a lot of details about the consequences of many of his adventures – for example, you really don’t need to know what that 30 minute period of trying to get a candy wrapper out of his throat was like.

Last night, around 1 am, Fergus discovered bubble wrap. If you’ve ever been annoyed by a co-worker popping plastic bubbles, imagine a cat who has happened upon the delights of something which not only lets you slide across the room but – if you land on it just right – makes wonderful sounds.

So, in spite of my attempts to locate all the sources of this material and remove them, I spent hours listening to him slide (and crash into walls/furniture) and then pounce and pop.

I thought my biggest challenge was to find glasses for his brother. Apparently I’m going to need to find this one a twelve step programme.

Mine is a boy – 3 years old and still has yet to work out what shadows are. First hint of a light & a moving shadow on the wall and he is scampering, scratching & generally determined to grab it. Light reflected off a shiny surface? He goes completely bananas…

I blame the catnip toys my family keep bringing him. Stitch, my previous cat, was also a boy, but far, far, far too intelligent to get caught out by reflections.
