There are a lot of successful communities in Second Life. Quite a few of them are successful Steampunk communities. One of those, The Independent State of Caledon↑, will be officially seven years old on April 1st.
They are beginning their celebrations today.

In recognition of the one thing a virtual world cannot erase (timezones), the grand opening will happen twice. From 12 til 2 SLT and then again from 5 til 8 SLT.
The festivities will take place at the Book and Tankard Pub↑ and there will be Steampunk and Celtic music. All are invited and Victorian/Steampunk clothing is suggested.

If you’ve never visited this Independent State, now is a very good time to go and explore. I tried counting the sims on the map and gave up at 25.
The photos are souvenirs from me randomly teleporting around and I did try to be cautious – much of what you see is residential.

Many of us have gone shopping on Caledon for fabulous steampunk gadgets, but this is a good time to look further and recognize that community does work when it’s done well.
Of course, doing some shopping wouldn’t be a bad idea either. :)

/ February 23, 2013With so many sims that come and go, it is great to see a community like this survive and thrive for so many years. Speaking of years, I’ve started reading/scanning your blog from the beginning, in 2008. It makes me smile — from “I can now use WindLight!” through today.
