Creativity By & For Eccentrics in Second Life

One of the most talented builders I’ve ever met, and one of the most intriguing characters, is Veleda Lorakeet↑. She’s the type of person who notices that you’re a hamster and hands you a christmas themed hamster wheel she just happens to have built. I’ve known her for a few years and, in spite of a sincere intent, I’d never made it to her home community. She has told me enough that I was always intrigued and curious and, now having visited, I’m kicking myself for not getting there before.

Emphatic Eccentricia↑ is all about creativity. More than that, it’s all about encouraging creative people to develop their Second Life skills. They invite and attract the “eccentric new residents” who may find themselves limited in other venues, but will find a supportive home here as well as a place to experiment and grow.

Surrounded by a forest, this community is full of the most wonderful creations. They have a sandbox for their members that allows people to work at leisure and gain inspiration from others. They aim for “a place where you can ask anything on Second Life or on creating stuff in Second Life. We do not offer classes for scripting, building, texturing, particles, vehicles, mesh or sculpties, but we can point you to places where you can learn.”

They do plan to offer workshops on the creative process itself however. :)

To celebrate their 3rd anniversary, Emphatic Eccentricia↑ is having a festival from January 6 to 12. They invited a group of fabulous artists to help them by building exhibits that highlight what creativity can achieve: “Mikati Slade, Eupalinos Ugajin, Cutea Benelli, misseuro Chau, Jasmin Jolbey, Caro Fayray, Eliopod Beaumont, Nemeton (aka Fluhks), Treacle Darlandes, Lux Ashdene, and some very cool fixed builds by Dryea Foxdale, OhMy Shalala, Taubchen Sonnenkern and myself” (that would be Veleda).

Furthermore there will be some builds by residents who are still very new to Second Life. They cannot be missed, as they are part of our reason to be.

On Saturday the 5th they will have a Press Day – which Veleda points out is a little odd because the sim never closes. She does say, though, that at least on that one day they’ll make sure to find the time to help you look around and will be available to answer any questions you might have.

Be prepared for amazing things, moving and changing and odd and, yes, eccentric. It’s a magical sim and the idea that new residents will find a (free) home and a place to develop their creative side is wonderful. If you see an odd avatar, one that perhaps looks like a work of art you enjoyed, it’s quite likely Veleda. Someday I’m going to figure out how to rummage in her inventory and maybe borrow a few things. :)
