Busy and yet Unproductive in Second Life

Mont Saint Michel (moderate)

One of my favourite scenes from any book takes place in the Scarlet Pimpernel↑ – (from memory, which is suspect) the author begins a chapter on an isolated, rocky, french beach.

The seabirds calling and the waves lapping are the only sounds on a quiet, still morning. She spends enough time setting up the atmosphere that the sudden, very english, “Damn” is a lovely and humourous surprise.

I associate Mont Saint Michel with this novel and was delighted to find it replicated inworld. Look at this photo↑, imagine it at high tide, compare it to the top image,  and you’ll see the creator has done a faithful job with this build.

I was going to take pics yesterday, but I encountered a brand new resident and instead spent some time introducing him to steampunk and post-apocalyptic and fantasy builds. You know I can’t resist the “omg moments” when people have their first exposure to cool things on the grid!

What I did NOT do, of course, was get a Christmas Card made or distributed. sigh I’m a failure. But I DID attempt the settings for tilt/shift DOF. I really need to spend some time with all the different DOF↑ settings to see what happens.

Oh and one more thing I want to play with, although it’s a post-production process, Layering Windlights↑. I don’t know when I’d use it but it looks like fun. :)

So here’s my suggestion, Honour. I’ll consider your blog your Christmas card. There. You’re off the hook for one card. *grin* Notice how I ASSUME you were going to send me one. And you can consider my…. hmmm ….. my COMMENT here as MY holiday card. How’s that? Now go play with the kittens. THAT is time well spent. :)

  2. Wonderful post! I do need to try that tilt and DOF technique. I keep on seeing Ziki use it.

    Happy Christmas!

Gald you found Mount Saint Michel – it’s a fabulous build (and had snow on the hill when I was last there). But… have you discovered the decidely un-Pimpernel underground bunker and alien space craft there?

  4. Mount Saint Michel is truly one of the gems of Second Life. I send folks there when they say “SL is nuthin’ but crap” (or the like).
